The water in the bay was still and glassy this morning as we headed out on Slashfin towards the Islands. Not only were the conditions fantastic this morning but the shark activity was out of this world. We had a huge number of different White sharks visiting and not only did we see such a high number of sharks but many of them had some fantastic behaviour around the boat. We were lucky enough to see a number of our well known sharks including our largest shark “Big Clampy” a 4.5m female named due to the marks oh her dorsal fin as well as some smaller but just as feisty individuals like “PJ” a small male biopsied by Dyer Island Conservation Trust in 2015, “Bruce” a small male with a shortened right pectoral fin, “Fishing Line Shark” a shark plagued by disgarded fishing line that the crew of Marine Dynamics was able to disentangle, “Claudia” a small but playful female, “Cutfin” a male with propeller injuries to his dorsal fin and “Poseidon” a male tagged by Ocearch in 2012 and which you can find more information on this site here.
The second trip of the day launched and whilst the wind had picked up and caused some choppy conditions the shark activity was still great. The sharks that visited us this trip were the same as the first one, with “Big Clampy”, “Bruce”, “Fishing Line Shark” and “PJ” showing their fins again this afternoon.
An absolute fin-tastic day out with the White sharks!
