An early morning launch from Gansbaai harbour today saw Slashfin heading around Danger Point which is where we spotted what looked like two Southern Right whales frolicking at the surface in the rising sun! Once around in to Van Dyks Bay be headed to the Geldsteen for the day and was greeted f irst thing by a predation off in the distance a very interesting start to our guests trip! This was a good sign as it showed that the sharks were in the area and in just 5 minutes time we had our first shark arrive, a female we are aquainted with, easily distinguishable by bite marks on the side of her face. She is usually one to stick around and “play” however today she appeared to not be in the mood. The stand out for this trip was the small but feisty juvenile “Mini Nemo”, who did stick around the entire trip and chose the perfect moments for mutliple surprise attempts on the bait and decoy lines! The second trip of the day headed back to the same anchor spot and had some great success there too. Whilst this trip was dominated by the smaller individuals they exhibited some great activity with close passes, leaps and turns. The third and final trip of the day had a very slow start and we found ourselves waiting for close to an hour with no activity! We decided to move a little deeper and had sharks soon after the move, including a very impressive female approximately 4.2m in length and covered in parasites which made multiple passes, skimming the edge of the cage giving the divers a great up close and personal experience with a White shark…
