It may have been a little chilly this morning with overcast skies but this didn’t stop our guests from heading out to see the Great White sharks! This mornings trip had a bit of a wait but just after 30 minutes of scanning the sea for that sharky shadow, a juvenile White shark approached the boat. This little shark was only the start, this is something we see often with the first shark coming in after some waiting and then within minutes we have many more. This monrings trip was lucky enough to see “Clampy”, a 4.0m female with faint clamp marks on both sides of her dorsal fin, her sheer size is in itself impressive but so is her slow, calculating and curious behaviour, perfect for everyone to have a good look at such a magnificent and powerful creature. The second trip of the day started off fantastically or should we say FIN-tastically! We had a 3.0m male circling within minutes of anchoring, a great way to start off any trip! We had some great viewing around the boat today and under the water, it has been a tad bit slow recently so to see such great activity was awesome. Of the six sharks we saw in the afternoon, there were five that we know were definitely male, it looks like today was a day for the boys! However, not uncommon as the Geldsteen has been known, through our tracking and data collection, to display a higher ratio of males than females. The boys held up their own with leaps and jumps every now and again and some very close passes by the cage. We had two with parasites attached around the head and gill area, two with some very distinctive scarring and marks, yet the two largest of the trip were very clean with just a freckle here and there! A very nice day to see the White sharks…
