As Gansbaai came down from a heavy storm the day before, we headed out in the early morning onto a wave-y sea to our dive-site. When we arrived in The Shallows, the storm had turned the water green. However, that didn’t stop us. As our guests waited patiently for the first sharks to arrive, a Cape fur seal popped up out of the murky waters and seemed to give a quick wave hello before disappearing quickly. Tension on board rose as the guests expectedly waited for the copper sharks to show themselves, however, their expectations were met once they appeared up from the deep. The sharks steadily moved around the cage, as the guests marvelled at the sight. By the time we headed back, our guests left with a host of new memories.

The second trip launched and headed back to the shallows.  Interestingly, the area was full of floating kelp from the big swells the day before.  A couple of the copper sharks seemed like vegetarians as they curiously investigated the kelp.  When the activity slowed down, the crew quickly realized it was because a white shark had entered the picture.  A beautiful 2.5m great white proceeded to make several passes around the boat.  It would disappear for a bit, but then show back up for a pass or two.  The shark even stuck it’s head out of the water a couple of times.  Perhaps looking for some Halloween treats!

The third trip was a special celebration for a 25th wedding anniversary.  It was so wonderful to have an entire family together making new memories.  Grandma was 82 and happily came on the boat, proving that age is just a number.  The family was greeted quite quickly by our friends the copper sharks.  On the way back to the harbour, a southern right whale mother and calf pair also popped up to offer their congratulations!
