Another beautiful morning met our group today and although there was a slight chill in the air, that soon disappeared with the rising sun. We headed yet again into the Geldsteen, an area we have had much success over the last few days and put down anchor. A short 20 minute wait produced the goods, our first White sharks making a stunning vertical approach on the decoy! This shark was closely followed by another and both cruised around shyly in the beginning. Given another 20 minutes and things started to heat up after numerous new arrivals and some spectacular shark activity seen around the boat. We had a number of named and famed sharks today including “Maureen” and “Poseidon” which you can all see the journeys they have made along this coastline on Ocearch’s website here. We also had little “PJ” back from yesterday showing his moves off in front of the cage with quick turns and leaps. The new addition to the boat today came in the shape of a large female White shark with many bite scars covering her head, she showcased some amazing activity for a shark of this size as she blasted her way from one end of the boat to the other on the surface of the water, something we see often with smaller sharks but rare to see in a 4.0m animal. We had hoped this was a shark we know as “Scarlett”, named so due to the multiple bite scars on her head, received last year however after carefully comparing both the dorsal fin and scaring this does not appear to be her. A quick cruise by the always interesting Cape Fur seals and we were on our way back to the harbour after a magnificent morning of White shark diving and observing!
Today we were heading towards Shark Alley before picking up the cage at our dice site. We were cruising through the world famous waters and had a closer look at all the Cape Fur seals, the most favourite meal for the white sharks in this area. Leaving Shark Alley trough a part called ‘the washing machine’ we were already close to our dive site. We had sharks straight away. The activity was good constantly and towards the end some bigger sharks around four meter showed up. After a great trip in the Geldsteen, we were looking forward to tomorrow’s shark activity.
