The sharks were out in numbers today, and they were also quite active. Our first trip had a mere 10 minute wait before the iconic “Scarlett” arrived. She hung around with us for quite some time before she was followed by a 2.0 meter white shark with a bite wound on the right side of its head. We also were visited by “Sally” a 3.8 meter female with a white mark before her dorsal fin, “Paisley” a 3.6 meter female white shark tagged last year by the Dyer Island Conservation Trust, “Neva” a 3.5 meter female white shark with bite marks on her face, and “Feisty” a 3 meter long recently tagged shark. We also had a visit from a 3.3 meter male white shark with several black scratch scars on his face and a rosie on the left side of his dorsal fin. Our second trip began quickly with the arrival of a 3.1 meter white shark within the first minute of our arrival. It was followed by “Scarlett” who was up to her usual antics of spy hopping. She was visited by “Paisley” who stole the show with her quick speed and sharp turns. We also had “Chama Tica” a 3.8 meter long female with a triangular notch taken out of her dorsal fin, “Sarko” a 2.4 meter long female with a spunky personality, “Mulfur” a 4.3 meter long female with a large healed slash in her dorsal fin, and “Feisty” the 3 meter long tagged male white shark. This trip was also visited by a 1.9 meter white shark with lots of scrape scars on its left side and a 2.3 meter white shark that was also recently tagged the same day that “Feisty” was tagged on. Most of these sharks stuck around for our last trip, with visits from “Scarlett,” “Chama Tica,” “Paisley,” and “Mulfur.” We were also visited by a 3.8 meter long female with a very fresh bite mark across the back of her head and a 2.3 meter long white shark with no distinct markings except for one freckle on its right side just below the dorsal fin. We couldn’t have asked for better sharks or a better day. It was a great day today!
