As Slashfin launched out of Kleinbaai harbour this morning, the sun was shining and we were hoping that maybe better weather would mean a better day, and hopefully also some better luck with sightings. Sadly this was not the case, and while we did get to enjoy a beautiful morning on the bay, no sharks came up to say hi. After a few hours of hoping and waiting, we pulled up anchor and headed to shark alley. If we couldn’t see the predator, we could at least see the prey! Before coming back into the harbour we made a pit stop next to Dyer Island to learn about the Cape Nature rangers that monitor the endangered birds living on the island, including our colony of African Penguins
The second trip of the day headed out to see if our luck would be any better than this morning. It was a lovely afternoon out on sea with a clear, bright sky and little swell or wind, even the conditions under the water were pleasant with a nice sea temperature and not too low visibility, however, even with said conditions the sharks still did not want to come and play and we left anchor that afternoon without a sighting. Before heading back to land we a small detour out to the Islands and cruise through Shark Alley to have a look at the Cape Fur seal colony of Geyser Rock.
