A great start to the week with a lovely day greeting us this morning. The skies were clear with a light cloud coverage and a slight wind around however we still had some swell. The sharks kept us waiting for around 45 minutes this morning but once our first shark was spotted the action just got better! The first shark to arrive was none other than “Jacob”, a large male that we generally see visiting the are a two to three times a year. We also had one of our other well known males turn up to the boat, a lot smaller in size but not lacking in personality, “Dolphinfin”, the juvenile White shark with dorsal fin that looks suspiciously like a dolphins dorsal fin. This mornings group decided on a nickname for one of the sharks, a smaller female that has been in the area for a few weeks now that has a nice active behaviour around the boat and that is easily recognisable by the white scar behind the dorsal fin. She will now be known as “Mandy” short for “Amanda”!

The second group of the day saw similar sharks to what the first group did however they were lucky enough to see one of the other Marine Big 5…the dolphin! A pod of Bottlenose dolphins moving through the area was spotted by this group, a lovely sighting with three species generally seen in this area, the Bottlenose, the Common and the Humpback dolphin, however we have to have a lucky day to see them from the shark diving boat. The third trip was an exlcusive for a honeymooning couple from the UK and White shark cage diving was the first big South African activity they were experiencing since touch down in the country only the day before! Whilst the visibility had decreased significantly by this afternoon the sharks were thankfully still activity and we were able to show the couple some of the most magnificent sharks around, thanks to the like of “Jacob” and “Mandy”! Before heading back to land we swung by the Islands and Alley to watch the Cape fur seals playing. All three trips of the day weregraced with the presence of the Short-tailed stingray! If only every Monday was like today…
