Sunrises and sharks, a great way to start the day! Slashfin launched this morning with hopes of sightings of the majestic white sharks. We didn’t have to wait long before our first shark snuck up from under the boat. It was a 3 meter male that I call Clampo. He was soon joined by another 3 meter white shark of unknown sex. These 2 stuck around for all of our divers, but didn’t stay around throughout the final cage. These divers patiently waited and waited. Finally a new shark was spotted! It was the young 1.8 meter male who displays various behaviors throughout trips. Sometimes he stays deep and cautious, and other times he speeds along the surface chasing the sea birds. Today he did a small mixture of both and was a great way to end this trip. As we headed back into harbour, a humpback whale was spotted fully breaching in the distance. Talk about lucky!
For our second trip of the day we were still enjoying the warm winter weather! And we didn’t have to wait too long for the sharks to show up! Within 25 minutes we had our first white shark, the 3m male with the clamp marks on the dorsal fin. With some awesome visibility today our divers got some beautiful passes from him. He was soon joined by a very fleeting visit of a small 2m individual that was swimming very deep around the cage. With a bit of a wait we were rewarded with a huge 4.7m female interestingly also with a clamp mark on the right side of her dorsal. We were all truly in awe of the shear size of this animal but also of her grace! As she swam of to enjoy the afternoon sun, the 3m male came back for a few final passes to round off a wonderful trip!
