It was great to be back out on the water today after two days off due to bad weather conditions. We launched just before the sunrise. Arrived at our dive site for the day we got ready and watched the sun brighten up the day. We were waiting at our anchor spot for a while but we weren’t lucky this time so we decided to move a little bit. At the new spot we had sharks straight away. A big beautiful female arrived and entertained us for a while before a smaller one took over. We had great shark activity and all divers got to see these beautiful creatures under water. Just before heading back to the mainland we passed the world famous Shark Alley and got to see thousands of Cape Fur seals.
The second trip of the day was an exclusive for a family visiting from the USA. By the time of the second launch the swell has decreased a little bit lessoning the motion in the ocean. A little bit of a wait yet again for the sharks to arrive however it was well worth the wait after they started gliding in. The largest shark of the trip was a stunning 4.0m+ female exhibiting beautiful behaviour.
The third and final trip of the day launched and headed straight back into the Geldsteen, we picked up the cage and re-anchored and within about 20 minutes we had our first sighting. This shark was the large female in the bay at the moment named “Khaleesi” and she really was the show-stopper of the trip, not just because of her sheer size but also her sneak attempts on the bait and decoy line, a beautiful sight as she slow brought her head out of the water. We also had “Tum K”, our friendly little male around today, fantastic to still see him around and two tagged animals. One was a satellite tag the other one of our own DICT’s acoustic tag. It was a truly fantastic way to finish off any day, sharks galore and a quick stop by the Cape fur seal colony of Geyser Rock.
