Sightings: Great White Sharks, Bronze Whaler, Southern Right Whale, Cape Fur Seal, Short-tailed Stingray

Our tours might be called shark cage diving, but we can really get anything over here. You might have heard us talking about Triple S diving where you get to dive with Sharks Seals and Stingrays, well, today we got ourselves the fourth S – Southern right whale! It doesn’t happen every day, but we are into our whale season when Souithern Right Whales come into the area to breed and raise their calves, and today we were lucky enough to spot them from our shark boat. We launched quite late today, just after midday and once we got to the dive location, we were treated with some amazing wildlife activity. We started off with a copper shark shyly investigating our lines, but then out of nowhere a small feisty female great white shark came into the picture showing how different those two species are. The juvenile shark only came for a couple of very fast passes ad unfortunely weren’t seen again for the rest of the trip. However, she was replaced by Shaun the shark who as usual were very relaxed and graceful giving the divers an opportunity to check him out underwater. Straight after Shaun a smaller female appeared and circled our boat for quite some time. On our second cage we were lucky enough to have both white sharks, a copper shark and also a stingray coming up to the surface. Already feeling incredibly lucky, we were in awe when the forth shark, 3.3m male appeared giving us quite a performance! And of course it’s always fun to see a cape fur seal porpoising around the boat being a cheeky thing that they are. Once everyone had their chance in the cage we packed up and headed back to the harbour.
The second trip of the day was an exclusive for a young group of guests visiting from the United States of America. We enjoyed a wild drive out to our anchor site and had our first shark sighting nearly immediately once the boat had settled. Throughout the trip we had continous activity with our guests bobbing up and down in the cage as two juveniles, Shaun the shark visited with a show stopping finish to the day in the form of a large female Great White we know as Clampy arriving, before heading back to land we made a quick cruise by the Island systme to have a look at the Cape Fur seal inhabitants of Geyser Rock.
