Guest comment: “Amazing crew and awesome experience!” – Luca + Jacqui

Location: Geldsteen
Water Temperature: 14.6’C
Depth: 13.7m
Visibility: 4.0m
Number of Sharks: 9
Conditions: Increasing winds and swell.

We launched a little later than usual today for our one and only trip. The seas were a little on the rough side today but nothing Slashfin and her experienced crew can’t handle! Once anchored in the Geldsteen it was only a moments wait before the first shark was sighted and then the second. The sharks continuously made their way in today with a great mix of males and females and a variation in sizes as well. We had “Little Lumpy” present, showing off like usual, we also had the satellite SPOT tagged male “Posiden” visit again after his first visit yesterday this year. The highlight of the day, atleast for the crew, was the return of “Rosie”, a 4.0m female we last saw in May sporting a new injury to the right side of her face believed to be from a boats propeller (see previous blog with pictures here). Whilst she did not break the waters surface she made a few close passes by the cage and we were able to make out her distinguishable dorsal fin, reminants of her acoustic tag and the healing injury. When we have injured sharks returning to the boat we are estatic as it is good to know that the shark is coping and also because we can monitor the healing. We welcome you back “Rosie” with open fins! We also had a Southern Right Whale cruising by us in the distance and two albatrosses, yet to be identified as either Wandering or Shy as they were still in their juvenile life stage. An eventful afternoon spent out with the White sharks…
