Trip 1
The low tide brought a very early start for our guests this morning however the conditions on the water were beautiful so why not spend the first light of the day enjoying the sea and some of it’s magnificent creatures.Speaking of these magnificent creatures, they appeared almost instantly after we did with a 4.0m female we know very well as “Scarlett”. The sightings did not slow down with many other sharks appearing during this trip and the activity proving very impressive. Not only did this trip have the pleasure of meeting “Scarlett” but also a male now known as “Vuvuzela” and two of our tagged animals, “Paisley” a female tagged last December and a male tagged this September.
Trip 2
The second trip of the day started off well just like our morning trip with our first shark spotted just after we arrived back in the Shallows. Whilst the shark numbers were lower this trip than the first the activity was still outstanding with “Paisley” and “Vuvuzela” making surprise multiple attempts on the lines.
Trip 3
The third and final trip of the day headed out this afternoon and picked up where our previous trip finished with a shark around instantly but also a very brave or silly Cape Fur seal. This sea lion was swimming around our cage, interested in catching some of the small bait fish that we sometimes see schooling in the area, however this sea lion had something interested in catching it with one of our male White sharks, “Vuvuzela” hot on its tail. It was a lucky day for that sea lion and it was able to avoid the sharp end of “Vuvuzela”! This male shark stuck around for a lot of the first half of the trip before disappearing however this was not a problem as we had another male very similar in size but recently tagged by Dyer Island Conservation Trust. Things became a little quite after this with two other sharks coming and going before a large female with distinctive white pigmentation on both sides of the dorsal fin arrived to save the last half of the trip. This female was the largest shark of the trip measuring in at approximately 3.8m in length.
