Location:  Joubertsdam
Water Temperature: 15.0C
Depth: 10.2
Visibility: 3m
Number of Sharks: 10
Conditions:  A bit choppy as we were dealing with westerly winds. We had short periods of sunshine.

We launched a bit early this morning as the wind was going to pick up during the day. We were dealing with westerly winds so we were expecting a bit of chop out at sea. As we were heading out we were amazed by the incredible visibility in Joubertsdam. Our divers were saying that the visibility from the cage was at least 3 or 4m! Something we hardly get in Joubertsdam. The sun was struggling to break through the clouds but fortunately we did get short periods of sunshine during our trip. The first shark to show up, only 5 minutes after we got on anchor, was Thuli a 3m female. Thuli was named by the crew only a few days ago. Hopefully she will stick around for a bit as she tends to be an active shark, a real crowd pleaser! As time proceeded we kept on seeing more sharks including Mark, Ingrid, Frownie and Little lumpy. Halfway through the trip the crew spotted a bait ball two hundred meters in front of the boat. Lots of gannets were diving into the water to try and catch fish. They were accompanied by gulls that were trying to scavenge some of the leftovers. Close to the end of the trip we spotted a shark with a bent pectoral fin. We have seen this shark before and after taking a closer look at the pictures we got we think it might be caused by a bite from another shark. Occasionally we see sharks with pectoral fins or caudal fins bitten off by other sharks. This one was lucky to get away with its pectoral still attached. We ended up seeing 10 different sharks varying in size from 2.5m to 4.4m!
