We were back out on the water today after a day off due to some bad weather conditions and whilst we had some not so nice predictions for today’s weather things look nice out on the water with just a little bit of swell as we exited to the shallows harbour waters. Once on anchor it wasn’t long until our first shark was spotted and more followed, however today was one of those days that even though the sharks were around and we could watch them from quite far away, they were not at all interested in getting close and spent most of the time cruising around in our scent trail. The slow activity today could possibly be due to the drop in water temperature from a toasty average of 18.0’C to a chilly 12.0’C seen in just a day or two. The largest shark of this trip did come very close to the cage as she approached the left side as she made a slow attempt on the seal decoy, this was “Whitney”, one of our large females in the bay right now and comes in at approximately 4.3m in length. We were also greeted by “Paisley”, one of our acoustically tagged sharks from last December, who has a habit of quickly showing up, surprising us and then quickly leaving again. Some nice fishy visitors around the boat this morning.

On our second trip we just arrived at the dive site and already had two sharks around. They have been around the cage which we left out on anchor after the first trip. We had amazing shark activity during the whole trip. In total we had six different sharks, they were slowly passing in front of the cage so the divers could have a nice look at them. But also from above the water we got to see them nicely. They came from the deep with their jaws wide open so we could have a nice look at their shark teeth. Such incredible animals, we are so blessed to have them in our bay.
