What a nice day for some shark cage diving, the wind was low and the sea was calm with some clouds overhead to make help the divers from getting to warm in their wetsuits! We had close to 30 minutes to appreciate the beautiful surroundings before our sharks arrived. The first was a larger male that came hurtling into the area and was with us for some time, we had two smaller female visit after yet neither were interested in sticking around. The star of this trip was the largest and most active, “Parry”, a male just under 4.0m in length and easily recognisable by the scaring we believed was caused by the parasites that gained him his nickname! This shark has some fanastic behaviour to show our visiters as he slowly approaches the lines and lifts his head out of the water. On board with us this morning we had a diver who was diving for a very good cause. Gary joined us to conquer one of his fears and also raise funds and awareness for cancer through The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, something very close and personal to him, well done and goodluck Gary. More information on this charity can be found here. We cruised along the shallows as we made our way back into the harbour and were lucky enough to spot a mother calf pair of Southern Right Whales playing in the swell, we may be a shark boat but we do love to spot any other the other animals this diverse area is lucky to have! The second trip followed on swimmingly from the first with a shark spotted within five minutes of arriving back to the dive site. This happened to be the large male, “Parry” that kept the first trip entertained. Whilst this trip saw two other sharks , neither stuck around so it was up to “Parry” to take one for the team and hang around for the afternoon which is exactly what he did even with the addition of a Short-Tailed stingray half way through the trip! A fantastic day with both trips having a great time…
