A bright early morning start for the first trips guests as they launched from Kleinbaai at 7:30am and headed in the direction of the Islands We had a fantastic start to the day with a juvenile shark around just after we anchored, this little shark appeared to have brought his larger friends with the next few arrivals being extremely large females. A stand out of this trip was a juvenile male known as “Bruce” and what he lakes in size he makes up for in activity around the boat.
The secodn trip of the day headed out and left where the first finished. A small shark was spotted in the scent trail as we approached our dive area and more were spotted as the divers changed into their wetsuits. We had an amazing number of White sharks around the boat this trip and the activity was consistant with a shark in view most of the time. Majority of our sharks today are ones that we have previously met including, “Ingrid” the largest shark of the trip, you can see her interesting past here. We also had two of Ocearch’s satellite tagged sharks, “Poseidon” and “Sellendilloh”, if you are interested in more information on these two males and where they have been have a look at the link here. We also had “PJ” a smaller male who has been a frequent visitor to the boat over the last two months, “Bruce”, one of our newly adopted White sharks and a large female who was part of a National Geographic study back in 2013 in which a critter cam and accelerometer was attached to her dorsal fin to study the movements and speed of White sharks during natural predations. A fantastic trip for all.
The third and final trip for the day was an exclusive for a group visiting from the United States. The sharks were yet again sighted from the get go. Many of the sharks from previous trips were sighted including “Ingrid” however there was a new addition to this trip in the form of a average sized female known to us as “Fishing Line Shark”, an individual that Marine Dynamics and Dyer Island Conservation Trust has been crucial in its survival after she became entangled in fishing line back in 2013. A beautiful trip to finish off a stunning day…
