A bright yet windy day met us this morning. There was a 40 minute wait for a glimpse of the first shark to be seen, this was a large individual that kept deep and we could not identify. Whilst this brought excitement to those on board this shark did not stick around and it was another hour till the next shark showed up, however, if we wanted any shark to show up it would be the one that did, “Little Lumpy”! Lumpy is a small female we know quite well due to her very active behaviour and is named so due to an old bite that has formed into a lump on her side. This shark, while coming and going from view throughout the trip, provided a great idea of how impressive White Sharks are. Thanks “Little Lumpy”! The second trip started with some apprehension after a bit of a slow start to the day however no need to worry as we spotted our first shark within 10 minutes and was a lovely sized female measuring in at approximately 3.6m. We have seen this female before and she is easily recognisable by a distinctive notch in her dorsal fin. This shark and our second arrival, another female similar in size, were the only visitors for some time, taking it in turns in front of the cage as they circled with time though we had more new arrivals. A juvenile male known to us as “Pieter” showed up and is always great to have around the boat with lots of speed and agility from him. We were also visited by a juvenile female we spotted a few weeks ago covered in what appears to be rope abrasions. It was great to see that these abrasions have started to fade and her activity and behaviour seemed to have improved as well. Thank you to all those who joined us on board today…
