Trip 1
A little bit of a lay in for our guests and sharks this morning with Slashfin launching an hour later than our usual 7am. Once out on anchor the sharks took close to 40 minutes to arrive but after the first one was spotted new arrivals and the activity did not stop. This trip saw many of our well known animals including three of our currently tagged sharks and one that has been tagged and monitored previously. We also had some of our larger female sharks around such as “Sally” and “Chuma Tika” as well as a smaller female known as “Momi”. Whilst “Momi” might have been one of the smaller sharks for this trip what she lacks in size is easily made up for with her behvaiour around the boat with this little shark ending up as one of the most active for the dat. A Short-tailed stingray was also a regular appearance this morning, gliding up from the depths every now and again.
Trip 2
The second trip of the day started off well with a shark spotted almost instantly after we had arrived back on anchor. The first two were males, large and dark in colour, we woundered if this trip would be dominated by the male White sharks currently in the area however our third shark turned out to be a tagged female by the name of “Paisley” and then along came our largest shark of the day, “Kayleigh” measuring in at or above the 4.0m length and with a new tag attached just under her dorsal fin. We were also lucky enough to have “Momi” for the second half of the trip, who took the prize for the most active shark of the afternoon as she gained ooohs and aaahs from those on board with her flying antics. The Short-tailed stingray didn’t want to miss out on this trip either and made a trip to the surface every now and again throughout the afternoon.
A beautiful day out on the water with both great conditions and great sharks.
