Wakey wakey all White shark cage divers, the sun is rising and it’s time to go see if we can find the largest predatory shark known in todays’ oceans! We had an early morning launch today and were the first to arrive in our dive spot in the Geldsteen. Thirty minutes of scanning the calm seas produced our first shark, an individual just over the 3.0m mark and with some very nice white pigmentation (rosie) on both sides of its dorsal fin. It wasn’t long before the rest turned up to see what the fuss was all about. We saw the small fiesty juvenile that has been leaving an impression on our visitors thanks to its speed, agility and what we like to call “playfulness”! We also had the largest shark of the trip cruising in at the end, “Clampy” made an appearance, making her presence easily noticable due to her sheer size and interesting and active behaviour around the boats. On the way back to the harbour we saw a mating group of Southern Right whales set on putting on a show! The second trip of the day started off well with the feisty juvenile around. We have seen this individual at all our dive sites around the Island, and he has been active at all of them! This trip also saw the return of one of recently tagged individuals, a large male, a great addition to any trip to give our visitors a look into the research that Marine Dynamics along with Dyer Island Conservation Trust are involved in. The third and final of trip of the day had similar success to the first two of the day, always nice to have some consistancy! We had “Rosie” visiting us this afternoon and was this afternoon’s largest shark coming in at 4.0m, this shark is a prime example of the healing abilities that thisspecies pocesses with the properler injury to her face nicely healing up in only the last few months. A fantastic trip to finish of a fantastic day! A “Great White” birthday to Alison who spend her 51st on board with us this morning, we hope the sharks made it a memorable day…
