A great day greeted our biologists, Max, this morning for our first trip of the weekend! They headed to the dive site in the shallows of the bay and only had a 20 minute wait for the first shark to arrive, which was a distinctively marked juvenile with abrasions along a lot of its right side! This shark stuck around for the majority of the first trip, coming and going as it pleased but always curious about the boat and its divers. Joining this small juvenile was another juvenile similar in size but clean in terms of distinguishing features and two sub-adults. A lovely way to start the day! Our afternoon trip was an exclusive for two couples from Turkey here in South Africa to help celebrate one of their birthdays, Happy Birthday to Ali for later this week! This trip continued somewhat similar to the first trip in the fact that it was the juveniles that ruled, with our small, abrasion covered individual, also seen in the morning, constantly turning in on the cage and travelling along right in front of our four divers. Once back on land we headed back to the Great White House to reflect on the trip and talk about the sharks. It is always fantastic to come across a group that is interested in the education and conservation of these creatures and holds such an appreciation for sharks and their place on this planet…
