31/10/2015

Location: The Shallows
Water Temperature: 16.2

Depth: 10.5m

Visibility: 0.5m

Number of Sharks: First Trip (10 Sharks) – Second Trip (7 Sharks)
Conditions: Overcast day with a building swell throughout the trip, light winds (3-6 knots)

A FINtastic start to the day with 10 white sharks around our cage after a short wait. On the first trip we saw a beaut of a shark which we estimated to be approximately 4.2 m in length, which is nearly the length of our cage. We were also treated to a number of juvenile white sharks around the cage ranging from 2.5m to 3.4m. We were lucky enough to observe two other species of elasmobranch on the first trip with a visiting Bronze Whaler shark (2.6m) and the cheeky short tailed stingray.

The second trip we saw 7 white sharks, the biggest being a 3.5m male who was very lively at the bait. We also had a visit from a shark affectionately named ‘Bitey’ identified by a large bite scar on the left side of his head. Another short tailed ray appeared at the boat towards the end of our trip and showed great interest in the bait.  What a great day to be at sea!
