Decreasing winds with increasing sun and slight swell
A nice early launch saw us heading out of the harbour with the morning sun shining down. It took us some time to see our first shark this morning but once the first one arrived, new individuals continued to show up throughout the entire trip. We were visited yet again by the sub-adult male satellite SPOT tagged shark as well as some of our larger male individuals we have been seeing frequently as of late. The second trip of the day saw similar activity and sharks, with the addition of some familiar fins! “Alvin” and “Mini Nemo” were present during this trip and provided some great viewing and photo opportunities. The action was present from the beginning for our third and final trip of the day, with a shark spotted within minutes of anchoring! As well as some great shark activity the visibility that we saw this morning had cleared up slightly this afternoon easing the challenge that the visibility had presented earlier on in the day of viewing the sharks from the boat and underwater. We had an unusual diver on board with us, Kermit the Frog joined us for the afternoon and had a front row seat to the action after being tired to the decoy. Kermit was part of one of our visitor’s workplace competitions to get the best travel photo and luckily survived to tell the tale! With the higher, cooler winds we had some interesting bird species around the boat today including a lone Storm Petrel, which we generally see during our winter months at the island and a Caspian Tern, the largest of the Tern family! A great day out in the bay…
