Daily trip 21 December 2012 (Trip 1) | Shark Diving Gansbaai

Guest comment: “I love white sharks their beautiful and not scary!” –  Eric (five years old) Sweden.

Location: Joubertsdam
SST: 11.3 Celcius
Visibility: 3.0m
Conditions: Flat calm and sunny.

Often during summer, one of our biggest challenges for shark cage diving is visibility, however, today we were fortunate enough to have blue water as opposed to dark green (plankton rich) water, this does usually mean that the water temperature is cold, and an Icy 11 degrees Celcius was recorded! Nonetheless, after an hour or so wait, we were fortunate enough to see a small white shark we recognised, with distinctive scratches on its side. A little while longer, the wind shifted south and a few more sharks ranging in size between 2-3.5m arrived. Then, one of the biggest sharksI have seen for a long time, a 4.5m TL female, arrived and really showed off her grace in front of our divers. Sadly this animal has a bad injury next to her dorsal, possibly a boat skeg or propellor. Seven white sharks in total and two cape fur seals made for an excellent day!

If you are looking to get up close and personal with the great white shark then Shark Diving in Gansbaai, and more specifically with Marine Dynamics, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you won’t want to miss.
