The most amazing day of the year so far and finally Slahfin has come back to Geyser Rock!! The trip started right on the corner of Geyser Rock, right where we spent many hours tracking Slashfin last year, he hadn’t been seen yet this year but we haven’t spent much time at the island and we said to day was as good as any for his first sighting… The first sharks were big, one of them was another first for the year – ‘Hourglass Rosie’ who’s a large (~4.5m) female we’ve photo Id’d every year since 2007. Others included ‘Maddox’ who tagged at Geyser Rock with the Ocearch last year and recently completed a round trip from here to Mozambique. Finally towards the end of the trip one of our volunteers Gary popped up to say he thought he’d seen Slashfin under the boat and sure enough there he was looking as big and beautiful as ever! He’s a mature male over 4.5m in length, still carrying the tag we placed on him last year and has returned to Geyser Rock for the eighth time in nine years.
