A busy day on Slashfin as we took over 50 people to come face-to-face with the apex predator of the ocean on 2 VERY successful trips:
Trip 1. We arrived bright and early in Joubertsdam and were rewarded with great sharks straight away. Rosie is most definitely our favourite shark in the bay right now and she didn’t disappoint. We love her because she’s always so relaxed and comes extremely close to the cage! She was the first of the trip and stayed around until the end, by which time we had many many sharks circling Slashfin!
Trip 2 started much the way trip 1 left off, there were sharks very quickly, first ‘Fake Ball’ who was not sighted in the morning and later ‘Crinkle Cut’ and of course ‘Rosie’. On this trip the sharks got progressively bigger and right near the end we had the privilege to sight a giant – this was a 5m shark – unfortunately it wasn’t too interested in us circling fairly deep down and showing no incline to go for either the bait or decoy. After a few passes it was gone but it’s still awesome to see just how big an adult great white shark really is!
We have also been honoured to have Rolex Scholar Megan Cook with us today; Meaghan has travelled the world over the last year as part of the Rolex Scholar programme and was with us for both trips.
