Location: Joubertsdam
Visibility: 3m
Water Temp: 17.4’C
Sharks Sighted: 8
Conditions: Calm

We were back in the dam this morning after being unsuccessful at the island yesterday. We had heard it had been a slow morning for several other boats but we were lucky to pick up two really keen sharks early on in our trip and it only got better from there. One of the sharks was a fairly large male and later in the trip we sighted an even larger female – Maureen – who’s carrying a SPOT tag from the Ocearch campaign last year. She was 4.5m when tagged and looked every bit as big as that when we saw her this morning too. Since being tagged she’s visited Mozambique and Madagascar as well as the Open Ocean. It’s great to see she’s decided to hang out in Gansbaai for a few weeks and she’s certainly an impressive example of a large female white shark.

If you are looking to get up close and personal with the great white shark then Shark Diving in South Africa, and more specifically with Marine Dynamics, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you won’t want to miss. Book online with us and get a free video of your encounter with the world’s apex predator.
