This morning we headed out onto a flat sea while a soft breeze blew through the air. Once we arrived in The Shallows, we quickly put the cage into the water, and our divers hopped into their wetsuits. It wasn’t long before the first copper sharks arrived and as they swam around the vessel in the morning sunlight, they showed our guests exactly why they were called that way. While our divers attention was drawn by the sharks swimming around the cage, on the other side of the vessel a Cape fur seal snuck up on us, and surprised the people in the cage. The seal decided to hang around the cage for a while, and even claimed it as it’s own personal hunting ground, chasing the mullet that swam around. Our guests had a “Fin-tastic” time, and truly enjoyed the whole experience.
The wind picked up slightly as the day went on for our second trip, but the sun was still shining bright. We arrived back in the Shallows and got busy re-attaching the cage to the boat. It was a pleasant surprise that we didn’t have to wait very long to see the copper sharks make their first appearance. Some guests even commented how they could see the sharks by looking underneath the boat. Towards the end of the trip, the guests sitting at the front of the boat were rewarded by seeing one of our African penguins swimming in the water. The penguins live on Dyer Island so they weren’t all that far from home, but it’s always a special treat to see them.
