Location:  Geldsteen
Water Temperature: 14.8C + 14.9C
Depth: 10.2m + 10.3m
Visibility: 5m + 6m
Number of Sharks: 8 + 7
Conditions:  Cloudy in the morning with short periods of sunshine. As time progressed the skies cleared up and it became sunnier.

To avoid low tides in the morning we launched at 8.30am from Kleinbaai harbor. The tide was running out as we left the harbor so it was a bit of a tight squeeze. Fortunately we have skilled skippers that can drive the boat through this narrows passage. We made our way to the Geldsteen, the dive area where we have been seeing most of the sharks the last few days. This turned out to be a wise decision as we spotted our first shark only 5 minutes after getting on anchor, what a lucky morning! The first shark we spotted was Clampy, a 4.2m female that we have had around the boat the last few days. More sharks showed up and we ended up seeing 8 different sharks on our first trip, some males and female varying in size from 2.5m to 4.2m. We launched at 1.00pm for our second trip and apart from sharks we spotted a Southern Right whale, just behind our boat, a mere 50m away. The visibility seemed to have increased during the day as some divers were able to spot the sharks before we could even see them from the top deck! One of the sharks we saw on the second trip had wounded eye and we are not sure if the shark can still see with that eye. A sad thing to see but that is what nature is like sometimes. Simone and Georgia joined us again with the aim of getting behavioral data and tissue samples for their research. Simone managed to get two samples today including a sample from Clampy!
