This morning we went to sea in the midst of a warm spell (around 20°C!!!), which made our journey out to the shallows very pleasant. We enjoyed some excellent discussions as we sat in wait for our sharks, and even topped up our tans a bit! Joining us this morning were a curious bunch of Giant Petrels, as well as the Sub Antarctic Skuas on our journey out.
Many of our guests made the most of the warm weather this morning, and enjoyed cooling off in the cage. Our resident Quiz master tested our diver’s knowledge (which I have to say was excellent today!), and we had the pleasure of spending some time with a lazy Cape Fur Seal. This seal gave us a great show and even played with our decoy for a while, which was awesome!
Our efforts this morning were however in vain as our white sharks did not join us for a cage dive, however we shall not be deterred and shall continue the search for our shy sharks!
After our dive experience, we visited Shark Alley and had a wonderful view of the seals on Geyser Rock. In preparation for our second trip of the day, we dropped our cage off in the Geldsteen in the hope of trying to find where our sharks are hanging out at the moment.
The second trip headed out to the Islands before anchor to have a closer look at Geyser Rock and Dyer Island and their associated wildlife including the ever entertaining Cape Fur seals. Onto our anchor site we had decided to give the Geldsteen a try after an unsuccessful morning in the Shallows.
The conditions were fantastic, a beautiful day to end the month of July, and whilst most of our guest enjoyed cooling off in the chilled Atlantic waters, with a quick sighting of a Cape Fur seal, Short-tailed stingray and Box jellyfish no White sharks were seen this afternoon.
All in all though a wonderful day to be at sea, a real treat for us in the depths of winter!
