Sunshine, sharks, and whales. What more could we ask for? How about barely any wait time before our first shark arrived? We waited a whole 3 minutes before a shark was spotted approaching the boat. It was a 3.5 meter white shark with a white rosie on its dorsal fin. It was followed by “Neva” a 3.4 meter female white shark with bite marks on her head. We also saw “Sally,” an almost 4 meter long female with a white mark before her dorsal, and a 3.5 meter male with a scar behind its left eye.

Our second trip was just as lucky with a mere 1 minute wait before a shark that we’ve been calling “Twitchy” arrived. This is a very peculiar female white shark who has a noticeable twitch in her movements and her body tends to curl like a question mark. When she goes for the bait, instead of using her tail like the other sharks, she shakes her entire body side to side to propel herself through the water. This unusual behavior can’t be explained, however she appears to be healthy as she is about 3.5 meters long and is not thin. She was followed up by “Paisley” and her usual playful attitude. We also saw a 3.8 meter male, with scars running down the length of its body from just below its dorsal fin to its tail, and a 3.6 meter female with a white mark on top of her head and a rosie on her dorsal fin.

Our last trip was lucky as well with no wait before the newly adopted “Gigi” arrived. She is a young female white shark that is only 1.9 meters long and she has a fresh wound on the top of her head. It almost looks like someone performed brain surgery on her like in the movie Deep Blue Sea, but she most likely just bumped her head on something. She was joined by “Paisley” who was up to her usual business, jumping out of the water and spy hopping to see the divers on board our vessel. We were also blessed with the presence of a 3.3 meter white shark with a black scar on the lower right side of its dorsal fin, a 2.9 meter white shark with 2 black scars on the trunk of its body, a 2.4 meter white shark with only one small black scar near its pelvic fin, and a 3.5 meter white shark with a semi-fresh injury on its left side. We couldn’t have asked for a much better day!
