Orcas! That’s right, we said orcas! Today was a very special day for our crew. Our first trip started out a bit slow, moving locations before a shark approached the boat. However once the sharks arrived, they kept coming. We saw 9 sharks in total this trip! Two of the sharks we noticed had blue paint on the tops of their heads. This is most likely due to someone painting their boat and the paint not being dry. We also saw a shark we know quite well that we call “Bitey” because of the bite mark on his shoulder. We were also graced with the presence of a stingray that thought that the seal decoy looked delicious. Our second trip was just as lucky, and were in for a very special and unique treat! We had 8 different sharks approach the boat, all highly active sharks that continuously went for the bait and decoy lines. The stingray also came back again, this time playing with the bait line. While our last cage was in the water, a Southern Right Whale and her calf passed our boat less than 100 meters away! As these last divers were climbing out, our skipper received a call from our sister company Dyer Island Cruises. They had spotted orcas!! We quickly packed up everything, ensured that all the passengers were safely seated, and rushed over to the islands. As we approached, we could see 2 male orcas in the distance. Both of them had collapsed dorsal fins, making them very noticable. None of our present crew had ever seen an orca and the last time our company has spotted them was 5 years ago! It was such a special day for everyone on board!
