Today was all about those Copper sharks with some of the best sightings of this species we have ever had!
The day started on the water at 8am for us this morning, with calm waters and a little bit of a wind blowing through the area. Once on anchor we had a little bit of a wait before the first shark showed up, a Copper shark, also known as a Bronze Whaler, and soon this large female was joined by more, as a species that moves in pairs or more this has been the norm for us around Slashfin the last few months with multiple individuals appearing at once and happy to be near each other.
Not only was it the number of Copper sharks we saw today but also the activity with multiple sharks approaching close to the cage, with some exciting moments involving three different Coppers all moving directly towards the cage at the same time and many other further back.
As the day progressed we saw the number of Copper sharks around the boat increasing with the afternoon trips seeing anywhere between 10-16 of these sharks, at the one time!
Whilst no White sharks were spotted in the area today we had constant Copper shark activity today, and nearly every moment of the day filled with the view of these fish, it was a beautiful shark-filled day.
