Well the weather might have been all doom and gloom throughout the day and whilst a little bit of rain may affect our moods not so much is said for the sharks, who of course don’t mind a little bit of water!

This morning saw us playing the waiting game for some time before the lure of an anchor change got the best of us and we ended up moving between two other vessels that were having better luck with shark sightings. Within moments of anchoring we had our first White shark and over the next 45 minutes our first one turned into our second, third, fourth and fifth, all of which were females ranging in sizes from a tiny juvenile estimated at just 1.8m to a absolute stunner of a 5.5m individual. This animal easily made the day for many of our guests, whilst the larger sharks may not be as active as our smaller sharks the presence that surrounds these specimens is amazing. This individual was last logged around our vessel in August 2015 and whilst her fin has changed a little the large semi-circular notch is still the prominent feature to the trailing edge of her dorsal fin. She proceeded to visit the boat for the other two trips of the day as well. We added more sharks to the repitore for the day as the second trip proceeded and the estimated 4.0m female that has been cruising the bay for approximately three weeks sporting darkly pigmented scars to her dorsal fin appeared. The end of the day took a turn for some slower activity as two passes by one of the large females at the start of the trip before disappearing with our guests yet again playing the waiting game before we were lucky enough to have a last minute visit by our only male White shark of the day.

Whilst it wasn’t the facest paced day out there for sharks we had three successful trips with White sharks sightings, something that makes our day here at Marine Dynamics and something we hope to be able to continue!
