Location: Gansbaai, South Africa
Dive site: Joubertsdam
Water temp: Warm
Visibility: Poor
Sightings: Bronze whaler sharks, Common Dolphins, Cape fur seal, Bryde’s whales, Short-tail stingray + African Penguins
Summary: A day filled with incredible wildlife encounters! Launching from Kleinbaai Harbour, our guests were in awe of the first sighting, an active pod of Common dolphins. With hunting activity in the shallows of the bay, we were able to witness their acrobatics around the vessel. Our next encounter was the Bryde’s whale, with a mother and calf pair calmly moving just below the surface, showing off their distinctive dorsal fins. The next sighting before arriving in the shallows, a raft of critically endangered African penguins were spotted out for a morning swim. At the dive site, a juvenile African penguin was sighted around the vessel, darting between the Bronze whaler sharks who arrived shortly after dropping anchor. Multiple individuals were sighted, with a close relative arriving, the Short-tail stingray. The final species sighted was the Cape fur seal, ticking off the final member of the Marine Big 5 in Kleinbaai! Thank you to everyone who joined us, it was great sharing these interactions with you!
