Trip 1
Today was a day for new sharks to the area and some of our favorites. Our first trip of the day began with a short wait before a juvenile white shark appeared that we haven’t seen around before. It was joined by 2 others, a 2.5 meter clean shark with no markings, and a large 4.2 meter female with several tears in various fins. We also saw “Gigi” a 2.0 meter female, “Paisley” a 3.7 meter female, and “Popcorn” a 4.4 meter female.
Trip 2
Our second trip was quickly greeted with “Paisley’s” presence as she gracefully passed in front of the cage. She was joined by a 2.7 meter white shark with makings along the right side, a 2.0 meter pale white shark, a 4.2 meter female who was very dark in coloration, and a 2.2 meter male with abrasions to his caudal peduncle- the fleshy area that connects the body to the tail.
Trip 3
Our last trip of the day had a few more well known sharks. It began with “Mini Rosie” a 3.6 meter long female slowly approaching the decoy from the depths, then passing gracefully in front of us. She was quickly joined by “Sarko” a juvenile female white shark who is 2.5 meters long. We also had a 2.2 meter white shark with abrasions behind the left eye, and a light patch on the leading edge of the dorsal fin. The last shark to join the bunch was a shark that we’ve been calling “Drooly” due to an injured jaw that appears to have been broken then healed with the teeth pointing downward. “Drooly” is also missing the tip of its dorsal fin and has 2 black scars on its right side. It’s unfortunate to see a shark with such a dramatic injury, however it doesn’t seem to be impairing “Drooly” one bit. What a great day full of great sharks!
