The day got started with an early morning trip on a very flat calm sea. It was a slow start to the day with one small juvenile shark approaching the boat in the first hour. However, after a bit of patient waiting, the sharks began to come in. 10 sharks came by throughout the trip, some came in very briefly and swam on with their sharky business, others hung around for a while. Fobs, one of our newly tagged sharks came through to visit our divers. We also saw a shark with the deformed dorsal fin. The second trip started well with a few sharks approaching the bait line the largest being around the 3.5 m marks. Towards the end of the trip the sharks began to quieten down and moved away from the boats. The third trip saw three sharks. Pieter a 3 m male came in soon after we arrived with a few energetic passes on the bait, but he didn’t stay for very long and the the sharks did not show much interest in the bait or the decoy for very long. It turned into a very quiet slow afternoon, with a few distance views of the sharks. Highlights included a Cape Fur Seal feeding on a large fish some distance away from the boat, but we could see the thrashing of the seals head trying to rip chunks of to eat. Although it was a slow afternoon for white shark activity today, it was a very hot calm day at sea and the guys got some great sun tans!
