Conditions: Flat, windless sea with light overcast.

We headed out to sea early in the morning, and Slashfin sailed to our dive site on flat, windless waters. We anchored at our dive site and after a brief wait, the copper sharks showed themselves. Our guests were excited as the copper sharks passed our cage. As these sharks, also known as Bronze Whalers, entertained our divers, a mother and calf Southern Right Whale passed behind our vessel. Our guests were enjoying the beautiful colours of the copper sharks, when a Short-tailed stingray rose up from the deep and awed the guests by it’s size. These animals get over 2m wide and are the largest stingray species in the world. Soon we headed back, and our guests left with a memorable trip to Gansbaai.

As the skies clouded over we began our second trip with an exclusive charter from the US. Beautiful flat seas made for a really comfortable trip where our guests spent almost an hour in the cage watching bronze whalers and cheeky cape fur seals interact! A cruise up to Dyer Island provided us with some penguin time – observing a group of four rafting together on the surface. A great well rounded trip and great time had by all!

The sea remained flat for our third trip, and we were back at The Shallows in record time. When we were there, the copper sharks took their time to come around. We soon relocated to a better spot, so our guests would not leave without seeing the sharks. Once we were at a deeper site, the copper sharks were much more eager to show themselves. Once our guests saw the beauty of these sharks, their appreciation of these animals grew. Towards the end of the trip, even one of the seals from Geyser Rock popped by to say hello. All of our guests had a wonderful time. As we headed back to the harbour, some of our guests got a quick glimpse of a whale passing near Kleinbaai harbour.
