The sun was out and shining today however there was a constant wind through the day keeping things a bit cooler! Once in the Joubertsdam our morning group had a wait of only 15 minutes before “Rosie” showed up and boy was she active today, with leaps and half breaches right in front for all on board to see. We were also lucky to have “Ingrid” visit today, yet she kept quite deep and was on her way within moments of arriving. The small female we spotted yesterday for the first time with what looks like rope abrasions turned up again today and the marks already seemed less harsh and her behaviour not as peculiar as it was yesterday. Our second trip of the day launched this afternoon and had our first shark around within 5 minutes of anchoring. It was the juvenile female with abrasions closely followed by “Rosie” and “Little Rosie”. Shark exhibit social behaviours when interacting with each other in which the dominate shark will win right of way over the shyer shark, this is something we see with “Rosie” quite frequently as she is one very feisty shark and has the habit of chasing or keeping some of the less active sharks away! We had a third trip for the day, a short eco trip, taking a ride into the shallows to see if there were any dolphins, sharks or whales to be spotted and then out to look at the Islands and Shark Alley with the tens of thousands of seals and the highly endangered African penguin. A day filled with some of the wonderful wildlife that the area has to offer…
