A little bit of rain won’t keep the sharks away! As Slashfin launched this morning there were clouds lingering overhead. We were excited to head to sea after yesterday sightings, despite the cold weather. Once on anchor, we discussed the area that we’re in, the islands off of our coastline, and before we knew it we had our first visitor. While it wasn’t a white shark, it was a relative to the sharks- a short-tailed stingray. It was soon joined by the stars of the show: our white sharks! Our first shark was a male that we’ve seen recently, about 2.6 meters long with dark scarring near his tail and along his side. He was quickly joined by the 4 meter male that we’ve also recently seen. These 2 spent most of the trip with us, disappearing occasionally. The large male seemed to be fascinated by Sally the seal decoy, surfacing slowly from the deep to examine her, bump her, and sometimes teeth her. We had one last visitor, a 2.8 meter white shark with a scar running diagonally across the right side of its body. As the rain began to sprinkle down, our last group of divers enjoyed some nice sightings of the big male and the third shark before they both ventured off. We packed up and headed in, hopeful that our second trip would be just a great! For our second trip we pulled up to our cage in the shallows and got our divers ready for some sharky action! We had a female university soccer team on board with us this trip, and with some singing from the cage, the sharks started to come check out what all the fuss was about! We had 2 sharks on this trip the same 2.6m male that we saw on the first trip, and then the slightly larger 3m male clampy! He gave us some very nice activity towards the end of the trip, with some very happy cage divers back on Slashfin we headed back into the harbour after another successful day at sea.
