Location: Joubertsdam
Water Temperature: 17.3’C + 17.4’C
Depth: 13.1m + 13.2m
Visibility: 0.5m + 1.0m
Number of Sharks: 7 + 6
Conditions: Bright, clear day with light easterly to southerly winds with some larger swells around.

A beautiful day yet again however we did have some pretty impressive swells around but nothing to be worried about. Once on anchor we had a large female very quickly, approximately 4.4m in length this is a shark known as “Whitney”, who unfortunatly doesn’t visit us very often. She made a few passes before cruising off and elaving us without a shark for close to 40 minutes. However the winds were changing and after swinging from a east direction to a south direction the sharks stating coming in droves! We had “Rosie” come by, a crowd pleaser any day and also a average size male we have seen in the bay around this time of the year for the last few years. The second trip launched and by the time we were back I nthe Shallows we had already sighted two sharks cruising on the surface, a nice indicator that the sharks were still around for the afternoon. We had many of the same sharks from the first trip back again this afternoon, yet “Rosie” was nowhere to be seen but in her place was “Mini Rosie” a smaller female with the distinctive white pigmentation on her dorsal fin and similar behaviour to her larger namesake in that she makes slow passes and is happy to flash her teeth! The visibility was a challenge today with some murky waters present however the sharks today were happy to come nice and close allowing our divers to have the chance to see them from the cage. Both trips saw the Short-tailed stingrays coming up for an investigation but today they did not stick around for long and didn’t affect our shark behaviour too much. A fun day in the Shallows filled with sights of the awe-inspiring power of the ocean and some powerful big fish to go with it …
