After an early launch, we dropped the cage into the water just as the sun began to rise. Within half an hour a shark we know well approached the boat. This shark has a bent right pectoral fin and we’ve seen it around a lot this week. It’s a very playful shark and is great at ambush attacks. This shark and another shark that we know well whom has a bent dorsal fin both were highly curious with our seal decoy and attempted numerous breaches on it. We also had numerous juvenille sharks visit our divers on this first trip, passing by the cage with intense curiosity. After 8 sharks had come to visit, we had a unusual sighting as a hagfish interacted with our decoy! Upon leaving our dive site, we also spotted a mother and calf Southern Right Whale just off the bow of the boat. The mother was teaching her calf how to breath. Such an amazing sight to see! Our second trip was an exclusive trip and was therefore a bit shorter than our usual trips. On this trip 3 sharks were spotted and the divers were ecstatic to interact with them despite the poor visibility. A Caspian Tern was also spotted from the boat which is a very rare occurance! We’d like to take a moment to congratulate the newlyweds from Boston, USA who joined us on their honeymoon! Our final trip of the day began promptly upon anchoring as a great white circled the boat before we could secure the cage to the boat! It was a juvenille who was highly curious about Slashfin. Not long after the divers submerged into the cage, a highly playful 3 meter shark came to “play” and made numerous attempts at the bait and decoy. This shark stayed around for over 30 minutes and put on quite a spectacle. Not long after it departed, another shark came by and looked our divers right in their eyes before attempting to ambush the decoy. It was an amazing day and ended with a very rare sighting of a sunfish whom are not often seen because the noise of boats typically scares them off!
