Visibility: 2.5m + 3m + 4m

Conditions: A sunny day day with a hint of wind.

We left early this morning as the sun rose up over the beautiful Overberg. The fresh sea air woke our guests up a bit. As our guests got dressed into their wetsuits, it seemed we had woken up the sharks a bit early, as they slowly approached the boat and inspected our divers with a sleepy eye. There has been little wind in the bay lately, which allows the water to clear up, thus the visibility was exceptionally good today. As the sun rose and the day became more beautiful, the sharks started to wake up a bit, and inspected our divers once more, this time with a more clearer eye. Soon we had several copper sharks around our boat for all our guests to see. Towards the end of the trip, even a Cape fur seal came by and waved hi to our guests.

On our second trip we headed once again straight to our dive site in The Shallows. Once we arrived our crew attached the cage to the boat and our divers got into their wetsuits. It wasn’t long before the copper sharks were back, and this time they were a lot more awake. The water was so clear, our divers could see the faint outline of the bottom 7m below. The cape fur seal even popped by once or twice to say hi to the new divers. As the sun rose high over Gansbaai, we headed back to shore, and our guests left with a new-found appreciation of the marine life of South Africa.

The third trip also had stunning visibility.  In fact, it is the best that I have ever seen in the shallows.  Our first group of divers were enjoying spending time with the copper sharks, when a 3 meter female great white decided to make a couple of passes.  She was very curious yet also cautious and never came up on the bait line.  Fortunately, the divers were still able to see her with the great viz.  She then disappeared for a bit before coming back again to casually swim by a couple more times.  Once the white shark made it’s exit, the copper sharks came back in to finish the trip off in style.  We then headed back to harbour for a fantastic end to the weekend.
