Trip 1
We were back on the water after a day off due to some heavy weather conditions and the bay looked like a completely different area this morning with the sun shining on a relatively flat sea. Whilst it was a beautiful day to be out on the water the White sharks of Gansbaai were abit on the shy side and with a two hour wait and an anchor move we finally got a glimpse of a shark however the three sharks that appeared at this anchor site had no interest in staying around and we were forced to yet again move anchor to hopefully what would be a more successful area. This proved a good decision as we had four different sharks around on this last anchor, some of which were very active and happy to get nice and close so we could have a good look at them. A great way to finish what was a slow start to the trip.

Trip 2
The second trip of the day launched and we were anxious to get back to our cage in the hopes that the shark activity would be similar to what we experienced at the end of the first one and whilst we had a sighting straight away and the first cage had some nice passes things really started to slow down and we went through many patches of no sightings. Things began to pick up during our third cage with the arrival of a large male we saw for the first time this season on the morning trip. This shark displays some beautiful active when it is around the boat yet comes and goes quickly so unfortunately we had this shark leave after some fantastic passes by. To finish of the day we had a visit by the juvenile male we know as “Dolphin fin” due to the curvature of his dorsal fin, an animal that became part of our biopsy program in 2015 for genetic, toxicology and behavixoural studies.

A slow but successful day on the water, we would like to say a big thank you to all those that joined us on board Slashfin for their patience and understanding.
