A beautiful Monday morning to wake bright and early for some White shark cage diving. Our first group of the day launched from Kleinbaai Harbour at 7am and were first onto anchor in the Shallows. We had a little bit of a wait but patience paid off with the arrival of our first shark, a small female known to us as ‘Sarko” she promptly appeared and just as promptly disappeared. Next moment ‘Scarlett’ appeared, a larger female we have known since 2012, however she too quickly disappeared. It was at this time that the wind changed direction and with the decreased in activity we decided to try a new anchor spot. Luck was on our side and the two females appeared again at our new anchor spot with the addition of another White shark circling on the surface off the back of our vessel Slashfin. We also encountered some of the bays other creatures this morning with a Cape Fur seal eating a tasting snack in the form of a cat shark in front of us and a Short-tailed stingray gracefully came up to the surface every now and again.
The second trip of the day saw a similar wait to our first, with a Cooper shark first to show up but with time ‘Scarlett” returned to Slashfin to greet the new boat of guests excited to see her. Whilst activity slowed down a little in the middle of the trip, there were three more sharks to come and things quickly turned back to the better with a female we only encountered for the first time this season reappearing, ‘Taryn-it-up’ and two new additions to the area since the sharks disappeared. Another successful trip, could we make it three out of three?!
The third and final trip of the day was an exclusive for four guests that launched late in the afternoon. This trip followed much like the previous two with some great sightings including both Copper sharks and White sharks.
A perfect way to the start the week.
