It looked like our divers were not the only ones affected by the early morning but our sharks as well. We had an hour wait for our first shark to arrive this morning but right on 9 o’clock our first White shark made its’ appearance, a small male approximately 3.0m in length he was joined by two juvenile females and a 4.0m female moments later. We were also graced by a estimated 3.5m male affectionately identified as “Freckles” due to the amount of dark spots he has all over his trunk. A slow start but fantastic finish to our morning trip.

The second trip of the day started off well with a shark sighted on arrival back to the anchor site. It was a very small juvneile only a touch over 2.0m in length but a welcome sight non the less. Yet again this was just the start to the sightings and the sharks just kept coming, with a dominance by the juveniles seen on this trip as all 6 of the sharks seen were under the 3.0m length, no problem though as these little sharks are really the active, playful ones showing the Great Whites amazing speed and agility.

The third and final trip launched for the afternoon and was yet again met by a shark soon after getting back to the Geldsteen. The first shark was the largest of the trip and also the entire day as a large female glided up slowly showcasing her impressive 4.3m size. This is a female we know quite well and whilst she creates a stir due to her huge and impressive presence and sneaky approaches she is not one to stick around and soon disappeared into the depths. Not to worry the second shark to show up was also another large female, a little smaller than our first but a little more active. We then witnessed a number of juvenile sub-adults before our last shark arrived a beautiful end to the day as “Ingrid” a favourite female of ours showed her very distinct fin. “Ingrid” has an interesting history from the time we first observed her in 2012 till now which includeds tagging attempts, biopsy success and unfortunately a injury sustained to her dorsal fin in 2015.

A stunning day out on the bay.
