Sightings: Bronze Whaler and Short-tailed stingray

Location: Joubertsdam

Water Temperature: Cold

Visibility: Moderate

A stunning Saturday out on the bay with little to no wind and a slight swell rolling through. We launched early and made our way through the early morning mist into the Shallows and onto anchor. The Bronze whalers arrived soon after we did with some fantastic activity seen by all on board and many great, upclose passes for those in the water. The Short-tailed stingray also provided some amazing viewing as it arrived from the deep and was seen frequently throughout the trip, coming so close that the divers could appreciate this large, graceful animal from the cage.

And once again we left the harbour to see some sharks. Once we reached the dive location our guests were excited to jump into their wetsuits. Even though our first sharks made us wait a little bit in the beginning, Bronzies gave us some really nice and close passes. The second cage were lucky enough to witness a Short-tailed stingray underwater and just by the end of the trip a Cape Fur seal came around, porpoising around the boat. Once everyone had their chance in the cage we headed back to the harbour.

We started our third and last trip of the day with lots of sunshine. As we reached the Shallows our divers geared up and the first Copper sharks started to arrive. We had some really nice shark activity throughout the trip so everyone got their chance to enjoy the beautiful animals up close in the water. We also had a brief visit from a cape fur seal. Once our guests climbed out of the last cage, we picked it up back onto Slashfin and headed back to Kleinbaai harbour.
