Depth: 9.3m +

Visibility: 1.0 m +

Conditions: overcast with low wind and swell

We started out under some cloudy conditions, but everyone’s spirits were about to be lifted. After some initial visits by the copper shark we had our first of 3 white sharks come by to say hi. This one only made one quick pass, but it was a good sign. 2 other white sharks would also make quick visits to the boat with the last one being 4.5 meters in length. It was a beautiful shark that brought smiles from everyone, especially those who got a close encounter in front of the cage. A cape fur seal happily played around the boat for most of the tour as well. Coming back in we had the chance to see Danger Point lighthouse on our way into Gansbaai harbour due to low tide. Perfect ending to a lovely day.

For a shark cage diving trip our second trip of the day was filled with whales. We headed out of Gansbaai harbour, skidded across flat waters around Danger Point, where the HMS Birkenhead wrecked itself in 1852 (we stayed far away from the dangerous rocks). On our way to the dive-site we  passed 3 of the southern right whales. Once we arrived at our dive site, our guests got into their wetsuits, and the first copper sharks arrived. As the sun broke through the clouds, the copper sharks displayed their full beauty to our divers. While the copper sharks entertained our divers in the cage, the guests up on the top deck had their eyes to the horizon as several whales passed us. One showed her majesty by slapping her fluke on the water surface. Once our guests headed out, back on their various travels around South Africa, they left with fantastic memories of both sharks and whales.
