A later start for the first trip today as Slashfin departed the harbour at 10am and headed straight into the Shallows. The first shark appeared quickly, the small juvenile many of our trips have seen over the last few days and whilst she has in the past been seen to be very active she has also been seen to be quite shy, staying deep, with only glimpses of her observed which is what she did today making a few surface approaches only here and there. Things became quiet after this little female was spotted and an anchor move soon ensued. This new anchor position lead to more shark sightings, of which all were approximately 3.0m in length including two males that have been sighted frequently over the last week. The afternoon trip was of to a stunning start as a shark approached soon after re-anchoring. This was one of the 3.0m males from the earlier trip and he appeared content to stay cruising in view for the first cage of divers and some of the second cage before disappearing into the deep and only coming to the surface every now and again for the rest of the trip. We waited patiently each time for this male to re-appear or to see if a new individual would show up and as the last divers in the cage decided it was time to come out our second shark of the trip hit! A feisty female just under 4.0m in length, appearing to be clean in regards to any distinguishing scars or features, this was the first sighting of this animal for Marine Dynamics this season but we sure do hope to see more of her in the coming days and weeks.
