A later start for the guests and team at Marine Dynamics today with a 9am launch from Kleinbaai harbour, we arrived into the Shallows quickly and waited close to 30 minutes for the sharks to arrive. We had some new sightings around the boat this morning, that is to say some White sharks that have not been sighted this year which is great as it appears more sharks are moving into the area. One such new addition to 2017 is one we have known well since 2015 and have not seen since Winter 2016, “PJ” a male approximately 3.2m in length and a animal that became part of our biopsy program in 2015 when a tissue sample was taken to be used in studies concerning genetics, toxicology and backing up behavioural studies. Welcome back “PJ”.

The second trip of the day got off to a choppy start with the wind picking up and causing abit of motion on the ocean and also a bit of a slow start as well with the sharks spotted almost immediately but not coming close to the boat. Things changed during our second cage when things started to pick up and we had multiple sharks in sight most of the time. These sharks included some of those seen on the first trip but also some new ones like the largest shark of the day, a whopping 4.2m male, a smaller male known to us as “Mini Nemo” due to a stunted right pectoral fin and another new animal sighted around the boat with a acoustic tag attached under the dorsal fin on the right side. A fantastic way to finish the day.
